SCORE Southern Arizona wants to help you succeed. In addition to free face-to-face counseling, we offer low-cost workshops and seminars for both start-up and in-business entrepreneurs. Workshops and seminars are open to all U.S. citizens over the age of 13. Training topics range from writing a business plan, starting smart, e-commerce and marketing, depending on the current needs of our business community. Workshops also offer an opportunity to interact with other local small business owners. Please review our workshop/seminar calendar below to learn more about upcoming training sessions.

Many workshop presenters are practicing professionals including accountants, lawyers, bankers and business mangers from diverse businesses and industries. Other facilitators are SCORE Counselors who have years of industry and business experience.

What is the Quickstart Program?

The Program helps answer the following questions:

Am I well suited to be an entrepreneur and am I really ready to start business? 
Is my business idea a viable one? 
How do I build a business plan that will help guide me toward success?
Do the financials make sense and can I make money?
What are the steps I need to form a company? - Should I create an LLC or an S-Corp?
How will I find customers? - How will I price my products and services?
Where will I find start-up funding? - What does a bank need to see to make me a loan? 
My business is struggling, what can I do to improve?

SCORE offers a workshop series that guides you through the process of starting and growing your business.  One-on-one mentoring is offered throughout the series.

Session 1. Startup Basics :helps you answer key questions before you start abusiness

  • Myths

  • Self assessment

  • Business basics in our area

  • Legal structures

  • Licensing and taxes

  • Insurance

  • Intro to marketing and finance

Session 2. Business Concepts:    addresses these critical business issues

  • Business concept development

    • New product or service idea?

    • Purchase an existing business?

    • Purchase a franchise?

  • Collecting critical marketing information

  • Other key issues

    • Competition

    • Size, product/service features

    • Supplier reliability

    • Business Risks

Session 3. The Marketing Plan: identifies your primary market and focuses you for the next steps

  • Product and services description

  • Pricing strategy

  • Competition

  • Target markets

  • Marketing strategies to reach customers

Session 4. Financial Projections:  gets you started building a plan to be successful and prepare you to obtain financing

  • Building your financial model

  • Forecasting sales units and prices

  • Understanding your financial plan

Session 5. Funding Sources: provides critical information on financial operations of your business and helps answer the big question: go or no go?

  • Financial statement analysis

  • Accounting & bookkeeping systems

  • The “six C’s of credit”

  • Banking relations

  • Sources of capital (traditional and non-traditional)


At the end of this series, we are available to continue working with you:

  • Further research your idea

  • Finalize your financial forecast

  • Develop your business plan

  • Prepare your loan package

  • Launch and grow your business!
